The Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment (ILFE) is a research organization based in Novi Sad which was founded in 1958 under the name of Poplar Research Institute by the Parliament of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
The main task of the organization is to provide research results which enable the development of new and improvement of existing technologies, products and services in forestry and environmental protection, as well as to achieve a leading position in the design and implementation of new technologies in forestry, agroforestry and environment protection.
The research fields of the institute are the following:
ILFE manages an experimental forest estate in the area of Kać which serves as a living laboratory and site for most long-term research studies, but also for the production of a good-quality forest and ornamental nursery stock.
ILFE researchers have realized numerous international projects and are collaborating intensively with various European countries, as well as with the United States of America and the Republic of South Africa.
